Patrick Foulis is a writer and journalist. He was previously The Economist’s Foreign Editor, responsible for its global coverage, and its Business Affairs Editor, running its economics, business and tech coverage. After joining The Economist in 2008, he served as banking editor, Mumbai Bureau Chief, New York Bureau Chief and the Schumpeter columnist on global business and tech. He has written special reports for The Economist on the world economy, business in Asia and India, and global banking. Previously he worked at the Financial Times and before that he was an investment banker in London with UBS. He is a joint winner of the Gerald Loeb Award, has attended the World Economic Forum for the last decade and was a Media Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University in 2025.
