Jennifer Ann Richter is a former foreign service officer, high school teacher, and audio description writer for television. Her writing draws heavily from her many interests and hobbies, with a particular focus on birding, astronomy, and travel. She’s passionate about expanding young people’s horizons and imaginations. She also strives to highlight our shared humanity over racial and class differences.
Jennifer’s debut novel, Bird Nerd (2024), received positive industry reviews and was listed as a Best of the Best Title from the Black Caucus of the ALA and a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year. The Star of Moon Village (2026) is a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection and has also received positive reviews from outlets such as Publishers Weekly and School Library Journal.
Currently, Jennifer teaches English as a Second Language at Delaware Technical Community College. She is fluent in German and enjoys birding, stargazing, and gardening in her spare time.
